Last week Leeds United were very strongly linked to Lugano’s Ezgjan Alioski.

It came from nowhere, and Correio de Ticino made it sound like a deal was close.

The Championship club were said to have held talks with Lugano president Angelo Renzetti, and simply had to ‘formalise’ the transfer, which made it all sound so simple.

Correio de Ticino even said a ‘farewell’ was likely on the way.

That was on June 20th, and since then there had been no real updates.

On Saturday, Switzerland’s 20 Minutes have a little snippet saying Alioski is ‘supposed to be’ signing for Leeds United, but they say it in passing and don’t sound too keen.

Sport Witness contacted the player’s agents last week, but they very much didn’t want to comment on any of the claims.

With 17 goals and 14 assists last season, there’s every chance Alioski and his advisers are waiting to see what kind of offers they’ll get over the next few weeks, and it’s perhaps no coincidence Leeds United’s links with Samu Saiz have increased over the past 48 hours.
