The rumours surrounding William Carvalho had become quite frequent in the past few months, as Sporting seem finally prepared to sell the midfielder to the Premier League.
It wasn’t clear to which club Carvalho could go. Now having Pep Guardiola’s brother Pere as his agent, Carvalho started being linked to Manchester City, a story we never bought.
Old interest from Arsenal and Liverpool were also mentioned. But the most interesting thing is that West Brom, who had made a bid last summer, were never taken very seriously.
But things changed when Tony Pulis admitted he’s been watching the player lately. First, the Portuguese press highlighted the manger’s quotes to say the interest is alive.
Now it’s A Bola who are taking claims from the English papers with some excitement, after it was said Carvalho would be available for £30m.
A Bola doesn’t have much of an input this time, and only cover the report without giving their own slant. They also, once again, recall Arsenal and Liverpool interest in the player.
Pulis’ scouting will certainly have a big impact in the Portuguese press, and it seems West Brom will be finally taken as a serious transfer threat. All eyes will be on Sporting scouting lists to see if West Brom have an official present, and an attempt this summer would be no surprise.
West Brom need to keep in mind that Sporting aren’t the kind of club who will simply capitulate on price, and nor do they like payments spread out over several years.
