Arsenal are one of a small number of clubs linked with Julian Draxler by L’Equipe in their Wednesday edition.
It’s especially repetitive for Arsene Wenger’s side, who have been linked with the 24 year old for much of his career. Arsenal were often said to be keen when Draxler was at Schalke, and that continued after the player moved to Wolfsburg, even though he failed to make a full success of that move.
When the time for a Wolfsburg exit soon came, Arsenal links popped up sporadically, but it was PSG who the German joined. Then faced with the bad luck of PSG signing Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, Draxler has had to move himself further back into a midfield role.
L’Equipe state that ‘exchanges have taken place’ with clubs including Arsenal, explaining contract has been made to test the water for a potential January loan. It’s not absolutely clear whether that contact has been initiated by people representing the player or the clubs.
Any loan would surely have to have clauses, or at the very least intentions, around a permanent transfer, probably next summer.
But for now Draxler’s midfield role has been going relatively well. There’s obviously a doubt over that long term, which would again bring an Arsenal transfer into focus, but if the German international can continue how he is, perhaps a summer transfer is much likelier.
