Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri has come in for praise from the Italian media after his performance against Liverpool last night in the EFL Cup. The Italian was the hero in the last round against Norwich City, but despite an impressive performance at Anfield he was unable to prevent his side losing 2-0.

TMW have reported on last night’s clash between Liverpool and Leeds United, with each player given a rating. Silverstri was the highest rated Leeds United player along with Kemar Roofe after both were given 6.5 out of 10.

The Italian football outlet said the 25-year-old was excellent in preventing Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum scoring in the first half, and throughout the game marshaled his defence well.

TMW believe Silverstri couldn’t do anything to prevent Liverpool’s two goals, and subsequently help Leeds United achieve their dream of a semi-final place in the competition.

Despite the loss to Liverpool last night Leeds United will take confidence from their performance as they aim for promotion to the Premier League. The Championship side are currently in the play-off positions after last weekend’s win at Rotherham United, and will be hoping they can maintain their recent form throughout the season.
