Former Torino goalkeeper Luciano Castellini believes Joe Hart’s mistakes were not often highlighted because Manchester City kept on winning games. The England international made debut his debut for Torino yesterday after joining the Serie A side on loan for the season.
Speaking to TMW, Castellini was asked about the standard of goalkeeping in Serie A at the moment. The 70-year-old believes the standard is good, but highlighted the faults of Hart and Arsenal goalkeeper Woijech Szczesny, who is on loan with AS Roma.
He said Szczesny has been prone to errors in his career and in Italy, but he thinks the difference with Hart was that his Manchester City teammates would rescue him.
“Viviano yes, but Handanovic has played very well, we have good goalkeepers in our league. Going back to Hart, I think even Szczesny of the Roma has not done very well either. The only difference is that Hart, in England, could afford mistakes because he had a team able to hide them,” said the Italian.
Hart joined Torino in the last window after being told he wouldn’t be the first choice at Manchester City, but his debut yesterday didn’t go to plan. Hart was at fault for Atalanta’s leveller, which led to Torino’s coach Siniša Mihajlović saying after the game his new signing could have done better.
