Panathiaikos are very close to signing former Blackburn and QPR player Christopher Samba. According to Sport.Gr, Samba is currently in Athens as he undergoes a medical for the Greek giants.

Panathianaikos were drawn alongside Ajax, Celta Vigo and Standard Liege in today’s Europa League draw, and subsequently they want to bolster their squad in order to fight on all fronts in this campaign.

Samba is seen as an ideal solution for the club’s problems in defence, and their manager Andrea Stramaccioni thinks it’ll be a massive signing for the club.

Samba is currently without a club after his contract with Dynamo Moscow expired. Samba also played for Anzhi in Russia during the club’s big money days.

The ex Blackburn Rovers captain made 171 Premier League appearances, with 161 of those coming with Blackburn Rovers.
