Former Newcastle United midfielder has labelled Kieron Dyer a phenomenal player after the pair played together at St James Park. Dyer was highly rated during his time in the game, but often remembered for the wrong reasons.
Jenas was asked by FourFourTwo to select his best eleven from former teammates, and Dyer was included in midfield along with Manchester United’s Paul Scholes, and ex-Tottenham Hotspur colleague Luka Modric.
Jenas said it may come as a surprise he’s picked Dyer, but he believes in his prime at Newcastle United he was a great player, and this was backed up by the number of top clubs who wanted to sign him. The BBC pundit believes even though Dyer had problems in his career he was still a special player.
“Picking him might come as a shock, but Kieron was phenomenal in his prime at Newcastle. A number of big clubs wanted him. I’m telling you, he was a special player,” said the former England international.
Despite playing nearly 200 league games for Newcastle United, Dyer could have featured a lot more in his career had it not been for repeated injury issues.
Dyer also played 33 times for England, which again surely would have been more if he wasn’t for his injury problems.
