Silvio Maric, once of Newcastle United, has warned the club they will face a struggle to secure top talent this summer, regardless of a potential big transfer kitty.

The Magpies are currently in the midst of a takeover by a Saudi Arabian investment firm, which, should it go through, would see them become the richest club in the Premier League.

Naturally, they have been linked with a big summer spending spree this summer, with several big names, including the likes of Edinson Cavani and Philippe Coutinho already linked.

That’s to go with the potential big-name managerial appointments that have been rumoured, with former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said to be at the top of the new regime’s wish list.

Maric though has warned that things will not be as simple as they seem and the club will struggle to convince these big names that St James Park should be their next destination.

“I immediately offer myself a scout for this part of Europe,” he joked to Tportal.

“I will send all the talents to them. I’m joking, of course, because if such investments are made, then surely there is already a whole crossword puzzle.

“And people will make sure that top professionals are in all positions.

“But it won’t be easy for them, because it will take time, whatever investments and names they might bring, for the team to get settled.

“But to be able to get involved in the fight for the top very soon, and not as now to preserve first-class status.”
