Victor Lindelöf returned to Sweden as part of his summer holidays, and during his break back home he became something of a national hero.
The defender saw a woman being robbed in the street, and used his pace to chase down the offender, hold him until the police got there, and help return a stolen bag to the rightful owner.
It was a real good news story for the Manchester United player, and the woman he helped later spoke to the media, thanking Lindelöf for his assistance.
The man himself has now spoken to the Swedish media about what happened, and Aftonbladet quote him as saying: “Everything went very fast. I did not think much. I just wanted to help the lady get her bag back and what she had in it. It was nothing more than that, I just wanted to help.”
After the event, the woman involved suggested she’d like to meet the defender to personally thank him for what he did, and a lunch was suggested in the media.
That hasn’t happened yet, and when quizzed on it, Lindelöf said: “I have not had any contact with her. I think it was my brother who showed me that she did an interview and invited me over for lunch. We will see if I can solve it before I go back, but it can be a little difficult in corona times.”
Now, he’s fully concentrated on Sweden’s tough upcoming matches in the Nations League, with the country facing world champions France on Saturday, followed by Portugal on Tuesday.
After that, it’s the new season with Manchester United.
