For the past two months, multiple claims coming out of the Brazilian media had insisted that Fluminense’s Nino was expected to join Nottingham Forest in the winter market.
Last week, O Tempo reported the Brazilian club were set to part ways with the centre-back and the Tricky Trees were the big favourites to sign him.
ESPN in Brazil say Nottingham Forest had already made an offer and were close to sealing a deal for the 26-year-old. There’s been a disagreement between the parties during the ‘final stage’ of the negotiations.
Meanwhile, Zenit Saint Petersburg have taken the lead and are close to securing Nino’s services.
It’s said they have tabled an offer of around €5m, which is close to Fluminense’s request. The defender also likes Zenit’s proposal and therefore the deal could be finalised soon.
ESPN’s claim is backed up Rádio Itatiaia, who provide more information on why a move to Nottingham Forest will not take place this month.
Fluminense were negotiating with Nottingham Forest for a month, after receiving approval from Nino. It’s explained that ‘everything was agreed’ for the South American to join Nuno Espírito Santo’s side, before the deal collapsed.
According to Rádio Itatiaia, Nottingham Forest would have paid around R$37.5m [€7m], and wanted to pay it in installments.
Zenit are offering less than that, but in cash. This has pleased both Fluminense and the player, who is now close to completing a move to Russia.
