After many loans, Jason Denayer finally left Manchester City for good in the summer, where he signed for Lyon in Ligue 1.
The Belgian defender, who had previously played for Galatasaray (twice), Sunderland and Celtic, was sold for just under £6m on August 21st, putting pen to paper on a four year deal keeping him in the south of France until 2022.
Since then, the centre-back has impressed greatly with his new club, putting in some solid performances, reminding everyone of the potential Manchester City saw in him when they bought him in from JMG Lier back in 2013.
Speaking to OLTV in France this week, the defender talked about his summer transfer and how keen he was to try something new.
Relayed by Foot-Sur7, he said: “Everything happened really quickly. I was at the hotel in Manchester. My agent told me that Lyon wanted me and everything needed to happen quickly. I took the plane the next day. Everything is going well for me here.
“I was well received. Everyone really helped me. I speak French, so it was a bit easier. It made things far simpler”.
Thrown in at the deep end by Bruno Génésio, the 23-year-old has already made 33 appearances in all competitions. scoring two goals as Lyon currently sit 3rd in Ligue 1, five points behind second placed Lille.
