A big part of Jürgen Klopp’s plans towards the end of last season, especially in the Europa League, Divock Origi has seen his time on the pitch reduced a fair bit this time around.
Yet to start a Premier League game, the player has only spent 104 minutes on the field in the league so far this season, with his only starts coming in three EFL games, scoring two goals along the way against Derby County and Burton Albion.
Despite only being 21 years of age, the forward already has 23 caps for Belgium, most of them coming under former manager Marc Wilmots, who had plenty of nice things to say about the youngster during an interview with L’Equipe du Soir in France on Monday night.
While talking about Roberto Martinez’s appointment of Thierry Henry as assistant manager for the Belgium national team, the Spaniard’s predecessor discussed some of the attacking options at his country’s disposal, including Divock Origi, whom he described as the ‘revelation of the World Cup’.
He said: “For me, he’s one of the best young striker talents for the future. He has everything: speed, technique, acceleration, knows where the goal is, right foot, left foot. But, Klopp is working with him, and taking his time. You need to let time do its thing.”
With 12 goals in 45 appearances for the Reds so far in his short time at the club, it’s fair to say that Liverpool fans are rather excited about the player Origi could become.
With time clearly on his side, and a manager known for successfully developing youngsters, it’s going to be interesting to see what the former Lille starlet ends up achieving over the next couple of seasons.
Will Wilmots end up being right?
