This year, we’ve covered several stories from the Portuguese press which said Reading were following Sporting’s Pedro Mendes.

It was first claimed in January that the Royals were interested in the striker, and despite having a bid turned down, they were back for him in July.

Now ‘everything indicates’ that Mendes is on his way to the Championship, according to a report from newspaper Record today.

The outlet says there are many clubs interested in him, but he’s more likely to move to the English second division on a loan with an option to buy.

Record says the name of the club he’s joining remains a secret, and the transfer should cost around €5m. It’s claimed that the player himself wants the move to the Championship.

With Reading insisting on the signing this year, they’re the obvious guess. Especially because Sporting didn’t want to let the player go back in January, but changed their minds this summer, finally making the transfer possible.
