Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Rocco Reitz has been linked with a move to Manchester City in the winter market.
This was initially reported in the UK, and Gladbach Live, after relaying it, share their own updates on this case.
Manchester City star Rodri will be on the sidelines for a long spell due to a serious injury. This, coupled with the Citizens’ poor run [winless in last six games] could see them react in the next window.
It’s been reported the Premier League winners are looking for a new midfielder and Reitz has been added to their list.
The 22-year-old is a product of the German club’s academy and has been a regular since the start of last season. He’s likened to former Chelsea star Michael Ballack.
According to Gladbach Live, the midfielder is unlikely to leave the Bundesliga side for Pep Guardiola’s side in January. They are of the belief it’s a big step for him to make a switch to the Etihad.
Back in February, the German extended his contract until 2028, and it gives Gladbach an upper hand during potential negotiations. At the same time, his sale could help the club improve their finances to strengthen the squad in January.
He’s a key player for his side and for the deal to take shape, ‘everything would have to be right’. Transfermarkt currently values Reitz at €10m, but the report claims Manchester City would need ‘significantly more’ than that to secure his services.
For now, Reitz is unlikely to leave, but that could change if Guardiola’s side were to make a firm approach.
