Sporting CP’s saga for a striker should finally come to an end soon.
As reported by newspaper Record today, the club are currently working on the possibilities to sign two of their former players: Bas Dost and Islam Slimani.
The Dutch striker has rescinded his contract after the attacks at Alvalade earlier this year, but it currently in talks to sign a new contract with the Lions. Slimani, who was sold to Leicester City in 2016, could return on a loan deal.
But Sporting should get only one of them, meaning that one of these chases will end up with no deal.
Bas Dost’s case is much simpler. All Sporting needs to do is to agree a new contract with him, which should include a few new demands, such as a personal security guard.
Now to get Slimani, it all depends on Leicester City. It’s pretty clear that the Lions can’t afford buying him back from the Premier League side, so the Foxes would have to accept to loan him out once again.
The situation looks like Sporting will sign the first one they can get a deal for, and for now, Bas Dost seems to be the most likely option.
This is a change from the earlier confidence around Sporting that it would be Slimani.
