Kepa Arrizabalaga has regained his place in Chelsea’s starting lineup this season. He has four clean sheets and conceded three goals from seven matches in all competitions.
The goalkeeper’s return to the playing XI coincided with Édouard Mendy picking up an injury and also the Blues replacing Thomas Tuchel with Graham Potter.
Chelsea’s last two managers, Tuchel and Frank Lampard, favoured Mendy ahead of the 28-year-old. However, Potter prioritises the Spain international and it’s because his footwork is better than Mendy’s.
That’s according to Mundo Depeortivo, who explain the ex-Brighton & Hove Albion coach’s arrival at Stamford Bridge has brought the ‘resurgence’ of the keeper, which is ‘all thanks to Potter’s wand’.
Over at Marca, they explained ‘everything has changed in the last month’ for the keeper at the west London club.
Having come close to leaving the Blues in the summer window, it looks like his decision to continue seems to have paid off.
The newspaper explains Kepa is now ‘key’ for Potter, and his recent displays for Chelsea allows him to dream of returning to La Roja.
According to Marca, the Chelsea man isn’t giving up on the idea of making Luis Enrique’s squad for the World Cup, even though Unai Simón, Robert Sánchez and David Raya are currently all ahead of him in the pecking order.
