Last weekend, we covered claims made in Argentina that Brighton & Hove Albion have made an offer to sign Rosario Central’s Facundo Buonanotte.
On August 30th, Olé reported the Seagulls have found an agreement with the South American side for a deal worth €12m.
The 17-year-old had also confirmed his employer accepted Brighton’s proposal for his transfer. Unfortunately, the deal didn’t go through, and he is still at Rosario Central.
Buonanotte’s representatives were left frustrated over their client’s failed move to The Amex, at a stage when they were exchanging documents. The agent also revealed Graham Potter’s side were surprised with the Argentine club’s decision.
Rosario Central president Ricardo Carloni has come out with an open letter on the club’s official website, detailing the reasons for not letting the Argentina U20 international join the Premier League side.
“It is my objective to communicate, in my capacity as acting president of Club Atlético Rosario Central, the reason why I decided that Facundo Buonanotte not be transferred and continue in our club,” he said.
“In the first place, because I am a fan and member like you. In that sense, I love these colours and I want the best for the club.”
“With the decision not to sell Facundo, I am seeking to make everyone’s interests prevail, our heritage and seek a great future for Rosario Central.
“During training this afternoon, I had the opportunity to speak with Facundo to personally express the reasons for this decision and see that the player is totally focused on achieving great goals with the club.
“It is a huge dream and I hope that 2023 finds our youths sharing a campus with Ángel Di María and under the direction of Carlos Tevez. I want all of them to continue promoting our players from the lower divisions, to be their mirrors and role models.
“We must build a better Rosario Central for our sons and daughters, promoting the values that make us feel the most important institution in Argentina. Thanks to all the members, members, fans and sympathisers who live and go out of their way for our colours and love our club.”
Buonanotte will turn 18-years-of-age in December. It needs to be seen whether Brighton will make another approach for the teenager in January.
