Raúl Sanllehí left Barcelona for Arsenal in 2018 and initially joined the Gunners as head of football relations before being promoted to head of football later that year.
Sanllehí worked as director of football at the Camp Nou and following his exit, the La Liga winners’ president Josep Maria Bartomeu handed over the responsibility of negotiations to CEO Òscar Grau.
Friday’s edition of Sport claims Barcelona are looking to bring in a new director of football as Bartomeu considers the position ‘essential’ at the club.
Grau has done the job of negotiating transfers very well and also has the confidence of Bartomeu, however, the former also has other responsibilities, which is why the Barca president wants to lower the burden on Grau.
While explaining the current situation at Barcelona, Sport also states Sanllehí’s move to Arsenal was a ‘great loss’ for the club, something which ‘everyone agrees’ on at the Catalan club.
Reports coming out from Spain have talked about Valencia general director Mateu Alemany for the director of football job at Barca, but his appointment doesn’t seem straight forward, according to RAC1.
Alemany’s contract has a clause that prevents him from joining another club in La Liga.
