We all know the Turkish media like a good gossip, and, more often than not, they’ll try and attract certain players to their local clubs.
One such footballer who has repeatedly been linked with a move to the Süper Lig is Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke, whose contract at Selhurst Park is meant to expire next summer but has an option for an extra year.
Fanatik in Turkey recently stated that Fenerbahçe’s director of football, Damien Comolli, recently contacted to the player’s agent to see if a way could be found for the Belgian to end up in Istanbul for next season.
Sport Witness decided to reach out to said representative to see what his side of the story was, and, well, let’s just say the Turkish media aren’t his favourite.
He said: “Every transfer window, it’s the same with the Turkish media. [Christian Benteke]’s only concentrated on Crystal Palace.”
Seeing as the Belgian started the Eagles’ most recent friendly (a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest), a departure doesn’t appear to be imminent, and there’s nothing to suggest he also won’t feature against Bristol City on Saturday.
