Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers’ decision not to rely upon Alexandro Bernabei regularly saw the left-back go out on loan to SC Internacional in March.
The 24-year-old’s loan deal lasts until the end of this month and as it stands he has to return to Celtic Park.
Globo Esporte state the Brazilian club are keen on retaining the defender beyond this year and have already held talks with Celtic.
Internacional have prioritised retaining the Argentine and have carried out the first round of negotiations with the Scottish champions.
Celtic are demanding €5m to sell him and this is too high for the Brazilian club. Despite the current situation, the report states Internacional will ‘make every possible effort’ to buy the fullback but ‘won’t do anything crazy’.
Internacional are relying on Bernabei and his agent to secure the deal and will hold fresh talks with Celtic, who aren’t willing to sanction another loan deal. They are ‘waiting for a signal’ from Brendan Rodgers’ side to proceed with the negotiations.
“It doesn’t depend on me. Now I will enjoy the holidays and see what the future holds for me,” Bernabei said.
ESPN in Brazil state Internacional are already working to reshape their squad for next year.
They are making efforts to retain Bernabei but are yet to reach an agreement with the Glasgow club.
It’s claimed Celtic initially requested €10m before lowering the price to €5m. Internacional believe they will further reduce the price, while lowering the percentage of a future sale.
