Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori has revealed he could leave the club in the event he doesn’t get enough chances to play.

It’s been just a few games under Ronald Koeman, but the player isn’t any happy with spending time on the bench at all.

In an interesting interview with La Nacion, Funes Mori remembered his early days at River Plate and his way to the national team.

Talking about the transfer to Everton in 2015, the defender was asked if he’s now more confident about getting called-up for Argentina: “I don’t know,” he said. “It’s true that there is a quality leap between each league. Being at River made me arrive to the national team, but when you get to Europe you have another prestige.

“The demands are different, the skills are different. Luckily I feel very comfortable with Nico [Otamendi] as a central couple and I think it’s noticed. But there is also Mateo [Musacchio] and Martin [Demichelis], who have a high level and from whom I also learn. What we propose is that those from behind are always staying in place so those up front can attack without being looking back.”

When questioned about how he deals with his reduced prominence at Everton, Funes Mori was pretty frank: “I started playing, but then the manager decided I had to be a substitute.

“I’ll see how things are going, because if I don’t play I will look for a way out to have that continuity of which we spoke, because I’ve place in the national team also based on play. Although Paton [Bauza, Argentina manager] gives me great confidence, I need continuity. And to play… at Everton or elsewhere.”

The 25-year-old has six appearances for Everton this season. He started the first couple of Premier League matches and then had the opportunity to play a few minutes in another two, not leaving the bench in three occasions. He also played two entire EFL Cup games.

Last season, after being signed for £11m from River Plate, he made 40 appearances, scoring five goals.

Ramiro Funes Mori has a contract with Everton which runs until June 2020.
