Everton’s hopes of signing midfielder Matías Vecino have been dealt a blow, with his Alessandro Lucci, saying he won’t be leaving Inter Milan.

The Blues are looking to add a midfielder to their squad this month as injuries have decimated the squad in that position.

They have been linked heavily with a move for Vecino, who was rumoured to be departing Inter Milan after falling down the pecking order under Antonio Conte.

Everton were named as suitors by Corriere Dello Sport, with it claimed that Inter would sanction a deal for around €20m to help balance the books.

Calciomercato backed that up and claimed Everton had been in contact with Inter for Vecino yesterday and that his agent was discussing his departure with the club today.

Well, Tuttosport caught up with Lucci after that meeting and, if the agent is to be believed, a move to Everton is not on the cards.

Branding the rumours as ‘media hypothesis’ he told the newspaper “we haven’t even talked about Vecino, nor about Florenzi. Matias is doing very well in Milan, and at Inter, there is nothing concrete”.

That would suggest at this moment in time; there is no intention to move Vecino anywhere this month, and even if there was, there is nothing more than rumour anyway.

There’s a chance that could change as we get closer to deadline day, but until then, it appears Everton’s desire to add a midfielder is no closer to being fulfilled.
