Whilst the general consensus in the Spanish media is that Sandro has received assurances about his Everton role, with Romelu Lukaku vacating a position, it’s not just that which has swung the signing for Ronald Koeman.

It’s also not just Atletico Madrid’s transfer ban, with Sandro going through a medical to join the Spanish club and agreeing terms before knowing the ban wouldn’t be reduced.

Another factor in the transfer, report Marca on Monday, is money.

Sandro isn’t averse to money. When he left Barcelona as a free agent, his representatives were able to demand more from Malaga than they otherwise would have been. That included good wages and a low €6m buyout clause.

Leaving Malaga, Sandro was always going to be looking for wages which recognised the low transfer fee. Marca say there’s two things which have been most important in Sandro choosing Everton: Salary and prominence.

Money isn’t a dirty word in football and there’s no problem with Everton flexing their new financial muscle, and Marca don’t suggest otherwise, but it must be nice for the club’s fans to know they can compete well on financial packages.
