Everton defender Nathalie Björn has ‘put herself in the spotlight of Real Madrid’ by admitting that she is ready to move on from the Toffees.

That’s according to AS, who cover comments from the defender to STV in Sweden and how they are likely to lead to another effort from Real Madrid for her signature.

The defender is quoted as telling SVT: “I feel like I need a new step and a new challenge to continue developing. Then, if it is in Spain or England, we will see. They are the two best leagues. England is more physical, and Spain is more possession-oriented, and I like having the ball.”

She also refused to answer direct questions on interest from Real Madrid, but they’ve been interested in her for some time, with it made clear in September that they had submitted several offers and a report earlier this month that they were again looking at her ahead of the January transfer window.

Her comments are now likely to have reignited their efforts, according to AS, who say they put her in the spotlight for a team that had already wanted her.

That’s because Björn is considered ‘one of the best defenders in Europe’ as she is capable of playing at centre-back, full-back and also in midfield if required.

She joined Everton in 2021 and has impressed since her arrival, with performances that have put her on the agenda of several big sides, Real Madrid chief among them.

They already tried to sign her in the summer and made several financial offers for her, but the move was blocked by Everton. That’s unlikely to happen in January as her current deal expires in 2024 and she’s seen to have opened the door to a move to the Spanish capital.
