West Ham United have joined the race for Napoli midfielder Allan, but he will ‘probably’ end up at Everton this summer.
That’s according to RAI Sport journalist Ciro Venerato, who provided an update on the player’s future as part of an appearance on Kiss Kiss Napoli today.
Allan has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League for several months, with Everton thought to be at the front of the queue.
They were thought to be chasing the midfielder throughout January and, while a move never happened, their interest has not gone away, and there have been numerous rumours about a move this summer instead.
Indeed, reports this week indicated the player was the ‘express wish’ of manager Carlo Ancelotti while today it was claimed Everton had upped their bid to €38m and Allan already had an agreement with the Blues.
Venerato has now followed that up, stating that West Ham have now joined the bidding for the Brazilian.
“For Allan, there is a head to head between Everton and Atletico, he will certainly go away,” Mondo Napoli report him saying.
“It should be noted, however, that West Ham has shown up in the last few hours, with an important proposal for him and for Napoli, we will see.”
This is backed up by Area Napoli, who quote him as saying; “Allan? Everton and Atletico Madrid are paired head to head, but West Ham has also shown up, with a proposal to the player and to Napoli.”
What that proposal is, isn’t made clear by Venerato or either of the websites, but it appears that David Moyes and co have suddenly decided to try and beat his former club.
Of course, there is every chance this is all part of Napoli’s strategy. It’s been well established they want €40m for Allan this summer and Everton are yet to match that.
Perhaps West Ham’s decision to join the race, which has come out of the blue, is nothing more than their way of convincing the Toffees to stump up the final €2m.
