Everton have been warned that PSV Eindhoven defender Denzel Dumfries could end up costing as much as €35m as he continues to shine at the European Championship.
Dumfries has been linked with a move to Everton over the last two weeks, with it believed Marcel Brands is a big fan of the defender.
He’s on the hunt for a new right-back for Everton this summer, and Dumfries is a player he knows well, with the player having joined PSV when he was Director of Football at the Dutch club.
It was reported that the full-back could be signed for as little as €15m this summer, a price that was very attractive to the Toffees.
That, though, was before the player began starring at the Euros with the Netherlands, for whom he has been the star of the show.
He’s already managed two goals and an assist in his first two games at the tournament, earning rave reviews around the world as a result.
Indeed, it’s believed Inter Milan have now joined the hunt for his signature, and the Blues have now been warned a transfer may cost them considerably more than it once would have.
“He is playing himself into the spotlight now,” Omroep Brabant quote sports marketer Ruud van der Knaap as saying.
“There are sites where this is kept up, and there Dumfries is now listed for 16 million euros.
“In football we live in a world of extreme market forces. So the more interest there is in a player, the more clubs will want to take a gamble with Dumfries and the higher the price will be.
“If two, three or four clubs are after him, the 35 million euro figure may well be reached. Stranger things have happened.
“That is still an uncertainty. Clubs will have to come forward that can pay for him.”
