Everton have made a ‘personal proposal’ to Tottenham forward Steven Bergwijn that betters what he was being offered by Ajax.
That’s according to De Telegraaf, who say the bid from the Toffees is ‘much better’ than what he would earn in the Netherlands.
According to their information, Everton ‘seem willing to pay’ what Tottenham are asking for Bergwijn, and a move could now be on the cards.
Everton have shown ‘decisiveness’ in their move for the Dutchman, something that has left him ‘in a split’ on what to do regarding his future.
He had been set for a return to his homeland with Ajax after numerous talks with them over the last few weeks.
Indeed, he’s had a ‘personal line’ to technical manager Gerry Hamstra and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, but neither of them had managed to reach an agreement with Tottenham.
They know what Spurs want for the forward and have approached that asking price, but each new offer they make has to be passed by financial director Susan Lenderink and the supervisory board at the club, slowing down the process.
Voetbal International back this up, stating that Everton are a ‘serious competitor’ for Bergwijn’s signature this summer.
According to their information, they want to take a step forward and secure the winger and they confirm the money the Toffees are offering is better than what Ajax have proposed.
That’s led to some frustration, and Everton have now made their move, offering better terms to Bergwijn than their Dutch counterparts.
At the moment, the forward would prefer the move to the Johan Cruijff ArenA as he would be playing in the Champions League, a big plus point for a player looking to make it to the World Cup.
However, the player’s patience will have limits and with Everton now at the table and offering better money; there is concern his head will be turned.
