Matheus Cunha has been linked with a move away from Hertha Berlin for much of the summer transfer window. Leeds United have been the Premier League club linked most, with claims of potential offers from Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
A move to Leeds has dropped away in recent weeks, and it’s now claimed the player is likely to join Atletico Madrid, despite a last minute effort from Everton.
Max Bielefeld, who works for Sky Deutschland, reports the Toffees have made an attempt to ‘hijack the deal’ in the ‘last few hours’. The problem for Rafael Benitez’s side is that Cunha prefers a move to Spanish football, which clearly favours Atletico.
As it stands ‘nothing is signed’, but there’s an agreement in principle over a deal worth €30m, plus more in potential bonuses.
Everton look like they’re missing out on this, yet if the claims is correct, and it would be an odd one to fabricate, it gives an idea of the type of player Benitez is looking for.
Cunha is a 22-year-old attacker, who played in a variety of positions for Hertha last season.
