Former Italy defender Fabio Cannavaro is on the list of options for Everton as they look for Rafa Benitez’s replacement.
That’s according to Il Mattino, cited by Area Napoli, who put Cannavaro alongside Gennaro Gattuso as the Italian options to fill the vacancy at Goodison Park.
Everton are on the hunt for Benitez’s replacement after sacking the Spaniard following the defeat to Norwich City on Saturday.
The Blues appear to have set their sights on former manager Roberto Martinez and are working to get him out of his job with the Belgian national side.
That is a difficult task, though, so the list of alternative options has been growing since Benitez’s departure.
Cannavaro can now be added to the list, with Il Mattino stating that Everton are ‘thinking of’ the former Napoli and Juventus defender.
He’s currently out of work after leaving Guangzhou FC in 2021, where he’d been since 2017 after spells with TZ Quanjian and Al Nassr.
He’s not the only Italian under consideration, though, with Gattuso said to have a ‘special feeling’ regarding life in Britain and ‘eager’ to return should ‘an important bench’ be available. In other words, he’d be tempted by a decent job offer.
Andrea Pirlo is also a ‘temptation’ to ‘watch out’ for too as he looks to return to work after his unsuccessful spell with Juventus.
Three names to add to the list for Everton, then, who seem to be desperately searching around for their next manager.
