Lyon’s Rachid Ghezzal was a summer transfer target for Everton, who had an offer accepted by the French club.
Earlier, L’Equipe reported the Merseyside club had an agreement with Lyon, and offered the player a salary of €400,000 per month, which is twenty times his current wages.
Ghezzal has been negotiating a new contract with Lyon, but there has been no agreement yet.
The 24-year-old has been speaking to the French media about his future, and is quoted by Le 10 Sport as saying: “I’m quite serene because I have my head on my shoulders, I know that these periods of the transfer market are part of the life of a footballer.
“I’ve lived this period calmly, and being already able to get back on the pitch, that’s all that matters to me. Me, I’ve always said, my wish is to continue at Olympique Lyonnais.
“We bonded with the club, it’s a good thing. If an agreement can be found in the coming days or weeks? Yes, of course.”
Ghezzal has a contract until next summer at Lyon, and it’d be interesting to see if an agreement could really be reached soon. If it can’t be reached by the winter window, then Lyon would again be open to accepting offers for the player.
