For the past couple of weeks, one of the strongest rumours in the Argentine media has been about the River Plate midfielder Nicolas de la Cruz.
Reports from Europe and South America have been claiming that Everton are keen on the 22-year-old, with the Toffees having recently spoken to his entourage.
Besides these latest stories, De La Cruz had previously been linked to Manchester City, with the same article from Olé saying Pep Guardiola’s interest in the player didn’t lead to anything, leaving the Goodison Park side the club in the lead.
The player took part on a live chat on Instagram at the weekend, and when asked about his future, he mentioned the Premier League.
“I like English football a lot. And Spanish too. They are very competitive leagues. Anything can happen, today I cannot answer what will happen.”
It turns out that the outlets in the Argentine media, including TNT, take his mention of the English league as a response to the news which have linked him to Manchester City in the past.
They’re probably missing out that the latest reports all say it’s Everton who are closer to signing the player, and that’s why the Toffees don’t get a lot of attention in the local press today.
