Steven Nzonzi’s profile is appreciated by Everton if reports coming out of France are to be believed.

The AS Roma player is currently on loan at Rennes and has been with the Ligue 1 side on a temporary basis since the winter 2020 market.

Having arrived at the Italian capital club after winning the World Cup with France, the midfielder signed a four-year contract.

Foot Mercato state discussions with the Serie A side will begin in the next few days to terminate the 32-year-old’s contract.

His loan agreement with Rennes lasts until the end of this season. According to the report, Rennes are looking to keep the defensive midfielder beyond this campaign and have verbally offered the ex-Stoke City man a two-year contract.

Nzonzi is at a ‘turning point’ in his adventure at the French club and also in his career. Hence, he is taking time to reflect on his future since there are suitors who are following him with a view to the mid-season window. There are English clubs particularly ‘interested’ in the Frenchman’s profile.

Arsenal and Everton are mentioned, and the website adds the Gunners have long been following the player. Regarding Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Foot Mercato explain Everton ‘still have an eye on him’.

Rennes manager Julien Stephan is still looking to strengthen the midfield position, anticipating the possible departure of Nzonzi and that of Eduardo Camavinga in the summer.

Nzonzi has made 17 starts in Ligue 1 this season for Rennes.
