Everton star James Rodriguez is ‘still waiting to define’ his future at the club as he looks increasingly likely to leave this summer.
The Colombian returned to Finch Farm yesterday as Everton started their pre-season under new manager Rafa Benitez.
How long Rodriguez will be a part of those preparations remains to be seen, with him having been heavily linked with a move away from the club over the last few weeks.
Reports in Italy have indicated that AC Milan could be keen on a deal, while in Colombia, it’s been widely accepted that the player’s relationship with Benitez is likely to see him seek an exit.
His agent Jorge Mendes is believed to be working on securing one, and Antena 2 report today that Rodriguez is waiting to see what his efforts achieve.
They state that the midfielder is ‘still waiting’ to define his future as ‘everything indicates’ he will not be remaining at Everton.
According to them, he will ‘work over the next few days’ as is expected but in reality is simply waiting to see what happens with Mendes, who, according to reports, travelling to Italy to finalise a move to Milan.
Antena 2 back up the claims of a poor relationship with Benitez, saying that there is ‘no empathy’ between the pair, and that has triggered his departure.
This is all backed up by Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra, who adds that Mendes is expected in Milan this week to negotiate a potential move for Rodriguez.
It seems then, despite a happy and smiling return to pre-season yesterday, Rodriguez’s focus is very much on getting out of Everton ASAP this summer.
