Everton star Richarlison had a great international break, putting in a brilliant performance during Brazil’s 4-2 win over Peru last week.
That pretty much confirmed the great time he’s been having both for club and country, but things changed a little in the past few days.
It started with the Merseyside derby, in which Richarlison was sent off following a challenge on Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcântara.
With the Spanish international ending up injured, the Everton player not only sent him a message, but also wrote a public letter apologising.
Richarlison, along with Jordan Pickford, who injured Virgil van Dijk, was targeted by angry Liverpool fans, with threats sent via social media.
Things got worse when during a live stream on Sunday, Neymar accidentally leaked Richarlison’s telephone number. The Toffees’ star claimed on Twitter he received over ten thousand messages in only five minutes.
Speaking to people close to the player, Sport Witness learned that Richarlison had to change his phone number, and his staff were also targeted by several threats. They’re unaware of racist messages, contrary to reports, and no legal action will be taken for now.
