With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Porto defender Iván Marcano has been a concern for the Portuguese club and Everton have been brought into the situation.
The player is still to accept a renewal with the Dragons, which is making the Liga NOS side quite worried about losing him on a free transfer next year.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola has a big story about it today, taking the latest claims from Spain, which say Valencia are closing in on the defender.
But A Bola adds other clubs to the race, which are Everton and Inter Milan, both keeping an eye on the defender’s situation.
Marcano has been in a good form at Porto, leading the team’s defense during the campaign which has been keeping them on top of the league table.
According to A Bola, the player has already received a first renewal proposal, but turned it down, and knowing the good form he’s in has only convinced him that he deserves more money.
Porto would be worried because all of Valencia, Inter and Everton would have conditions to offer the Spaniard a better contract. Especially the La Liga side, who would be about to offer him a good signing on fee.
So that’s a saga to be dragged for a few more months now, with Marcano having a very good scenario where he can choose between four different leagues.
Everton must stay attentive if they really want him, because with all this competition, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the defender agreeing a contract even before the transfer market opens.
Given Everton’s situation, offering Porto a transfer fee could well be the best option, and would get another defender to Everton more quickly.
