Coming through at Barcelona before heading out to Borussia Dortmund, Sergio Gómez has already had a rather impressive career despite only being 21.
It didn’t work out at either of those clubs for him, but it has done at Anderlecht, whom he joined in the summer for just over £2m.
He’s impressed a lot since then, catching the eye of a few clubs, including Everton and Southampton.
The left-back has five goals and 11 assists in 26 Jupiler Pro League games this season, which would catch the eye of pretty much anyone, but the Toffees and the Saints seem like an ideal step up for him.
This comes from Voetbal Nieuws in Belgium, who look at the kind of summer Anderlecht could have going forward, and there’s no denying the best player to sell to make money would be the Spaniard.
As for Everton and Southampton, those are seen as ‘more realistic’ for the 21-year-old, who is ‘estimated at €9m these days’, meaning that having signed him for less than a quarter of that, there’s some rubbing of the hands going on in Belgium.
It’s worth pointing out Everton did just sign Vitaliy Mykolenko in January to replace Lucas Digne, but there’s still a vacant natural left-back spot at Goodison Park to provide competition for the Ukrainian, depending on how Frank Lampard wants to play in the long-run.
As for Southampton, they’re in a similar spot, with just Romain Perraud as the only natural left-back in the squad, meaning there’s a space for Gómez there too.
