‘Three players, €135m’, that’s the best case scenario for Sporting this summer, report Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Noticias. As ever, the club are looking to bring in some money, and if they could get the full €45m buyout clause for each of William Carvalho, Adrien Silva, and Ruben Semedo, than that would suit them well.
Jornal de Noticias say Semedo has ‘aroused the interest’ of Everton and Southampton, setting up a potential summer transfer battle. Since Ronald Koeman moved to Everton, the club have shared a few targets with Southampton, which is the same scenario as when Mauricio Pochettino moved to Tottenham Hotspur.
Both Everton and Southampton have been linked to Semedo previously, but Jornal de Noticias present their latest claim as if it were fresh.
Semedo is a 23 year old central defender, with a contract, only extended last summer, which lasts until June 2022. Sporting will be looking for the full €45m, but Everton and Southampton surely wouldn’t pay it.
€45m converts to £38m at today’s exchange rates, and perhaps a fairer amount for Everton or Southampton would be £25m to £30m.
Sporting will likely think otherwise.
