Last week, when Benfica started negotiating the loan transfer of Gabigol from Inter Milan, the Portuguese press said the deal was only possible if the Eagles sell Raúl Jimenez.
But the signing has been managed faster than the sale, and as Record reports how close Gabigol’s move is today, they say Jimenez’s departure is ‘still a possibility’, with Everton now the only club named.
The sale is a ‘possible scenario’ as the Mexican player wants to play more regularly, and the arrival of Gabigol would leave the squad with five strikers.
The Portuguese newspaper doesn’t even mention how much Benfica would demand this time. The first reports said they would want €50m, then €40m, and it even got to €30m. We can only see these figures getting lower in the last days of the transfer window.
Everton had a ‘spy’ watch Benfica’s last match, in which Jimenez came on as a late substitute and was unable to make an impact.
