A strange deal to begin with, Ishak Belfodil to Everton is now completely off, according to DH in Belgium.
The Algerian striker, who signed on a free for Standard Liège in the summer, was poised to make a reported €10-12m move to Goodison Park this January, with some outlets even reporting the deal as practically done last Thursday, only to see intermediaries hold everything up.
DH report it is Everton who insisted on having other agents included to help with the negotiations, with Belfodil’s entourage displeased with the way the Premier League club acted during the process.
As things stand, the player is now expected to stay with the Belgian club until June, seeing his dream of a move to England disappear into thin air.
Standard, who decided not to stand in their star’s way, will now have their prolific striker ready to play for this weekend’s clash against Brugge, a small consolation considering they could have ended the week €10-12m richer.
It appears that Everton are the ones to have shot themselves in the foot here, with DH adamant Ronald Koeman was keen on bringing Belfodil to England after Steve Walsh personally recommended the striker to the Dutchman around two months ago.
As for Belfodil himself, DH reckon that while he is disappointed about the whole situation, no one doubts the fact he will give his all at the weekend against Brugge.
Barring any dramatic U-turns, this deal is now dead as a dodo.
