According to a claim in the Italian media, Everton are to step up their pursuit of PSG forward Edinson Cavani.

The Uruguay international has been linked with the Premier League side as Ronald Koeman looks to bring in a forward to replace the departed Romelu Lukaku.

TMW, who perhaps cracked open Sunday’s Chianti early, have reported Everton will hold a meeting ‘in the coming days’ with PSG over the possibility of signing Cavani. It’s claimed Everton are showing ‘serious’ interest in the South American forward, as the Merseyside club look to bring in a top level striker.

Cavani has hit the ground running this season with the French side, but his status at the club has been affected by the signing of Neymar from Barcelona this summer.

Yesterday we covered reports from Spain that Everton made a last ditch attempt to sign Chelsea forward Diego Costa in the last window, but the Spain international turned down the move because of his desire to return to his former club Atletico Madrid.

It was reported the Everton board were prepared to back Koeman to land the Chelsea outcast because the Dutch manager needed to bring in a senior attacker to replace Lukaku.
