Everton have told Besiktas that they want the rest of Cenk Tosun’s contract to be paid if they are to let him leave on a free transfer in January.
That’s according to Fotospor, who say the figure the Blues are demanding is beyond what the Turkish side are able to afford.
Besiktas has been linked with his former club over the last week or so, with them very keen on a deal and talks reportedly taking place during this international break.
Three proposals have reportedly been put forward, with Besiktas currently favouring the idea of Tosun ending his contract early with Everton and arriving on a free.
That is a deal the Toffees are more than happy to sanction, say Fotospor, but they want the Super Lig side to pay something.
According to their information, Everton have told Besiktas that they can approve the transfer if the full cost of Tosun’s remaining six months on his deal is covered by the Turkish side.
He currently earns £3.12m a year at Goodison Park and is set to earn £1.56m in the remaining six months, before his contract expires in the summer.
Everton want that paid to them rather than a transfer fee, but it’s a figure Besiktas can’t afford, as they were only planning on offering the striker a six-month plus two-year contract worth €1.5m a year.
They then need to find a lump of cash to satisfy Everton’s demands and then the six-month contract they plan on offering Tosun.
As such, the situation is currently ‘complicated’, despite Tosun being unhappy in England and determined to make a permanent return to his former club.
