Everton are ‘seriously considering’ a move for Lille forward Jonathan Ikone, but face competition from AC Milan for his signature.
That’s according to Milan Live, who say the Blues are ‘on his trail’ ahead of the January transfer window.
They explain that Milan are looking to bolster their squad in the winter window and believe their efforts could be ‘decisive’ for the rest of the season.
They are particularly keen to improve their forward options, and one of the names linked throughout the summer transfer window was Ikone.
He remains on their list, and with a contract expiring in 2023, there is a feeling that Lille may be forced to sell in order to avoid losing him on a free in a year’s time.
Any interested parties would have to pay a ‘significant sum’ to get his signature, something which has forced Milan to step aside for the time being.
As a result of that, other clubs are ‘swooping in’, and one of them is Everton, who are ‘seriously considering’ buying the Frenchman.
There’s no mention of a fee at this moment in time or whether Everton have gone beyond taking a look at this moment, but their interest is apparently there.
Any move involving a big sum of money as suggested would seemingly rule them out given the state of their finances, although that situation will be eased come January now James Rodriguez is off the books.
Perhaps that is why they are looking at moving the likes of Cenk Tosun on, even on a free, so that they can free up money to move for the likes of Ikone.
