Spanish side Real Valladolid have not ruled out extending striker Sandro Ramírez’s loan spell from Everton, but may be forced to choose between the striker and Hatem Ben Arfa.
Ramírez is spending the season on loan at the La Liga club, having been shipped out by Everton temporarily for a third successive year.
He’s only managed four goals and one assist in 21 games thus far but, despite those relatively low numbers, they have indicated they would like to keep him.
And, according to El Norte de Castilla that is very much the case, with them saying the club ‘do not rule out the continuity’ of the 24-year-old beyond the summer.
However, their financial situation as a result of the Coronavirus epidemic means money will be tight and, with him and Ben Arfa on big wages, the club may have to choose one or the other as keeping both is ‘unfeasible’ as the ‘figures would not add up’.
Each case is different as Ramírez still has a year on his deal at Everton, and Ben Arfa will be a free agent come the summer but unless there is a ‘surprise’ one of them will have to go.
The only way they could both remain is if they were to ‘lower their wages considerably’ and it’s not mentioned if either player would be willing to do so at this point.
In the case of Ramírez, though, perhaps there’s a deal to be done. He doesn’t have a future at Everton, who are pretty desperate to get him off the books by any means possible.
One possible solution is that Everton offer to cover a percentage of his current pay packet, meaning they reduce his cost for the final year of his deal, get rid of a player they don’t want and help out Valladolid in the process.
