We’re pretty sure that not many football players would reject a Premier League move just to play in Saudi Arabia. But apparently, Andre Carrillo could be one of them.
As reported by Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã this Tuesday, the Benfica winger is now keen on turning down an offer from Everton just so he can sign for Al Hilal.
In a move which was already negotiated by the Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira, Carrillo could be moving to Al Hilal on a loan deal, which includes an option to buy him for €20m.
What is attracting the player to Saudi Arabia is the salary, as he would make €4m after tax for season there. He’d also meet the Portuguese manager Jorge Jesus. This was also reported on Monday, but is being pushed more now.
Correio da Manhã claims that Everton did try to get Carrillo on a loan deal, but the salary offered by the Toffees weren’t as attractive as Al Hilal’s.
So unless there’s a turnaround in the next few days, it seems that Carrillo is currently more interested in making more money than in trying to prove himself in the Premier League once again.
That’s unless Everton have been used as a prop in the drama.
