Premier League side Everton made an attempt to sign Brazilian youngster Gabriel Verón last year.

Journalist Jorge Nicola writes that a source from Brazilian club Palmeiras says the Toffees offered €15m following the player’s performances in the U17 World Cup in 2019.

However, president Maurício Galiotte believed the amount to be too low, and didn’t even consider opening negotiations.

Jorge Nicola says Everton are not alone in the race, since Arsenal and Barcelona have also made approaches for the player, having contacted both Palmeiras and his staff.

It’s claimed that Palmeiras want at least €30m to sell Gabriel Verón. The club only hold 60% of his rights, with the other 40% going to his former club Santa Cruz.

Jorge Nicola also managed to speak to Lupércio Segundo, Verón’s agent. He’s confirmed that there are many European sides who’ve been interested in the winger.

“At the beginning of the year, there were some conversations with clubs. I cannot say the names, but I admit that, when things started to move forward, perhaps to become operations, then the pandemic arose.”

Still, the Coronavirus break may do well for this transfer. That’s because Verón turns 18 years of age in September, and wouldn’t be able to move to Europe this year, had things worked normally. Now with the transfer window set to be postponed, there’s a chance he could go still in 2020.
