This is a transfer rumour we should definitely have seen coming.

Everton are interested in the signing of Dries Mertens, according to Italian website Calcio Mercato.

The outlet comes up with an exclusive story saying manager Carlo Ancelotti wants the winger to follow the same path as he did to Goodison Park.

It’s said the Toffees have made a first approach and got to know they can pay €10m to take the player before the 10th of January. Otherwise, they would need to negotiate with the Serie A side.

Calcio Mercato makes things look quite positive for Everton.

It’s claimed that Ancelotti’s relationship with Aurelio De Laurentiis is pretty good, and Mertens would be keen on making a move to the Premier League side as well. Especially because he’s been having a hard time to find an agreement for a contract extension at Napoli.

But Everton wouldn’t be alone in the race for Belgian star, since Inter Milan would also like to sign him, and have his national teammate Romelu Lukaku by their side.
