Granada goalkeeper Rui Silva is likely to end up at Everton this summer, despite having signed a pre-contract agreement with Real Betis.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say sources close to the negotiations are convinced the goalkeeper will be moving to Goodison Park.
Silva is in the final six months of his deal with his current club and, as such, is available to negotiate with clubs around Europe over a free transfer in the summer.
He’s been linked with several over the last few weeks but none more so than Everton, who were believed to be pushing hard for his signature and offering the best deal financially.
That potential moved appeared to have hit the buffers when it was recently announced he had signed a deal with Real Betis to move there instead.
However, Estadio Deportivo report that everything is not as it seems and that move may not be as final as it was presented.
They explain those in charge at the Benito Villamarín believe the Portuguese goalkeeper continues to listen to offers from elsewhere and ‘will opt for the highest bidder’.
Indeed, several intermediaries outside of his official agents are working in that regard, offering the player around Spain and England, insisting that he has not ‘committed’ to anyone as of yet.
Sources ‘close to the negotiation’ have told Estadio that Everton, ‘who pay more than anyone’, will end up convincing him, even if the player ends up having to pay compensation to Betis as a result.
Thus, the player’s future remains an enigma. While he has the agreement in place with Betis, it can be broken, and he remains free to accept a better offer.
That is apparently already on the table from Everton, who have seemingly found themselves smack bang in the middle of a very complicated transfer situation.
