It was in the summer of 2020 that we covered one of the most intriguing stories in the rumour mill, as Brazilian winger Everton Cebolinha was linked to Premier League side Everton.
The Toffees were said to be one of the many clubs in the race for the Grêmio star at the time. He ended up moving to Benfica in a €20m transfer and signing a five-year deal, which seemed to kill the ‘Everton signs for Everton’ chances.
Now it turns out that despite his 25 appearances for the Eagles this season, he isn’t getting as many starts as expected, and is sometimes played out of position.
That’s why his agent recently went public to complain about manager Jorge Jesus and admitted that Cebolinha could change clubs if things continue like this.
And when speaking of potential destinations for the 25-year-old today, Brazilian outlet UOL again name Everton as one of the options.
The outlet first claims that Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan are both attentive to the player’s situation in Lisbon, as the Bundesliga side could make an official bid in case Benfica show a willingness to sell him in January.
Regarding Everton, UOL points out the club are an ‘old interested’, claiming the Toffees ‘renewed their care’ for the player ‘in recent weeks’ because of this scenario.
Even though Cebolinha was recently linked with a return to Brazil, the possibility is ruled out, both for his career plans as for his salary demands.
For now, there’s no information on how much the player would cost in January.
