Seemingly turning things around at AC Milan, Gennaro Gattuso has also managed to uncover a gem for the Serie A side in Davide Calabria.
The 21-year-old right-back has quickly become one of the first names on the team sheet under the former Italy international, and that means he isn’t for sale anymore, much to Everton’s displeasure.
This is, at least, according to Calciomercato, who have an article on the matter on Wednesday, explaining the Toffees have been after the defender for a while, never quite managing to get a deal done.
Everton are said to have ‘probed the the situation on more than one occasion’ back when the youngster wasn’t playing, but Gattuso’s arrival has changed everything.
Now, Sam Allardyce’s scouting team have ‘received clear signals from January onwards that Calabria cannot be moved’.
This came after the Toffees tried to ‘manoeuvre a concrete assault’ on the full-back, and the Rossoneri defender will ‘remain at Milan next season’.
However, that doesn’t mean Everton are ready to give up, and the Merseyside club are expected to continue to follow the young man closely over the coming year or so.
