Super agent Jorge Mendes is negotiating with Everton and Carlo Ancelotti over a deal for Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez.
That’s according to ABC, who say a transfer for the Colombian could be finalised for around €30m this summer.
Rodriguez has been linked with a move to Goodison Park for several months as a result of his relationship with Carlo Ancelotti, whom he played under at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
For much of the summer, there has been little suggestion a deal would happen until this week when reports in England stated Everton were closing in on a surprise transfer coup.
This has since been followed by reports in Spain which have stated the midfielder is ‘one step away’ from moving to Goodison Park, and the club will be his next ‘destination’ as Real Madrid are keen to sell.
They state that Ancelotti is keen to reunite with the midfielder and ‘has asked him to command’ Everton’s midfield attack.
It’s also claimed that the Italian sees Rodriguez as a ‘perfect’ fit for his team as he ‘knows how to exploit his strength, his talent, his passing and his shooting’.
That’s a sentiment shared by the player, who has enjoyed his best performances at Madrid and Bayern Munich under Ancelotti’s leadership.
Everton are willing to give him a three-year deal should he make the move to Goodison Park, with Mendes now seemingly working on those details, and the transfer fee, with the Blues hierarchy.
